Nice, that's pretty sweet for a stand in bike.
How did you work the single speed thing, it looks like vertical drop outs?
Have fun.

I messed around with different gear ratios. 34x19 gave perfect chain tension... Well maybe a hair tight. It isn't binding at all. Once the chain, cog and ring break in a little, it'll be poifect.
It is funny to see all the Mamasita builds on MTBR. Salsa is blowing them out, so lots of folks are picking one up. It has got to be one of the best deals on a high performance hard tail. Shops are selling them for around $550.
Thanks.

You bastard! Now everyone's gonna think I'm copying you when I get mine (http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/showpost.php?p=125189&postcount=1) built up! ;)
Looks nice - they're purty frames, ain't they?

You going geared with yours? Rigid or HT?
The frame is lovely. It SCREAMS for red components. Pictures don't do it justice. There isn't a lot of red on the frame graphics, but because everything else is either black or grey, the red completely stands out. I had to go with Red and black bars... I was gonna do pink in order to avoid the whole Darth Vader bike syndrome. The red was too much.
Be prepared for a pretty wild ride. It is super fast handling -- definitely a bike that you steer from the hips instead of from the bars. You can back off the handling a bit by going with a bigger front tire... I may end up there eventually. I've got Nanoraptors front and rear right now. Going to something like a motoraptor 2.1 out back and an Exiwolf 2.3 up front should make it nice.
I was surprised at how smooth it was. The carbon seat stays and flat chain stays work pretty well.
The jury is out on the look pedals. They engage really easily and come out smoothly too. There is a lot of float in there though. I can adjust that with the height shims a little. I think I've got them a hair too tall right now. I'm going to try a thinner shim.
Sorry to ramble on. I get that way about new toys. :D
Rosaryville tomorrow will be a good place to get it dirty.

When suspension bikes really started getting good, you often heard people talking about bikes getting them into trouble. They'd feel so good on the bike and it was absorbing bumps so well that they'd have the tendecy to carry too much speed and overcook turns or hit bumpy areas with too much velocity and get into trouble.
You don't always hear that about rigid single speeds. The Mamasita at Rosaryville was EXACTLY that kind of experience for me. This bike handles fast.... very, very fast. I think the term is "Flickable".
The combination of really fast, sticky tires and somewhat tacky, damp trails was a an amazing first ride for the new bike. Grumpy will tell you that toward the end of the first lap my mind was saying "You'd better back this off a little" while another part of my anatomy was saying "WAAAAAHHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!". The Wahoo won out bigtime.
Here's the weird part.... This oversized scandium frame with carbon seat stays is arguably smoother riding than my fancy steel bike. I'd really need to ride them side by side to know for sure... and Rosaryville isn't exactly the best place to make such evaluations... but it sure felt dang good.
I'll know more after a little romp at Wake-a-tink tomorrow morning.
Later!

I have a Jaun Solo setup 69er and it's the same type of thing... only... now add in a SHORT WHEELBASE. "Flickable" is the world.
The thing I find with rigid though, is that as soon as I get someplace like FH or rougher I loose quite a bit of momentum due to front wheel hits. I know, I need more practice. :)
The scandium and CF seat stays are very nice in the rear, as you say. I can't believe that the frame is going for $550 now. That seems like a great buy.

I'll bet the Juan Solo as a 69er would be fun. That's got to have some funky frame angles and fork trail with the front end raised up so high. I'll bet it is fun to ride. Cool bike.
As for the rocks.... It is hard for a guy as big as me to float over the rocks. There actually is a technique for it. It just is better executed by skinny people closer to 100 pounds than I am to 200.

From the sounds of it, she must be yelling "Ay Papi" out on the trails!!:p Sweet bike and glad to see you're hitting Wake-a-tink. If you're going to hit the powerline area be careful of the overgrown grass it will catch you by surprise.

Hahaha
Were you the guy on the yellow and black NRS that was right behind Jason when I went a little wide at the base of the switchbacks? If so, sorry. I hadn't ridden that end of Wakefield in almost a year and I hadn't seen it with the grass that high in a while.
I love the section leading to the top of the berms. That is so much more fun when everything is grown up high around it. Adds a whole new dimension to the ride.
That was my first time on Phase IV too. I love all the little bridges and rock gardens. Improved the trails significantly.
