Hey there,
While riding Fountainhead today I was coming up on the last challenging climb of the trail on the way out. The one where a skinny was built at the top. This climb is not too far away from the top of SOB hill.
Just before the start of that climb there is a short quick downhill. So you can build up speed and then use that momentum to start the last climb.
Anyways.
Today I had just built up my speed from the downhill and raised my head to look up the hill to start the climb. Dead center on the trail was another rider blasting down the hill.
I yelled an expletive preparing to die. Luckily we avoided each other.
I told him "Wrong way, Dude. It is a one way trail."
He commented back that he was sure he was headed the right way and was sure the signs told him so.
I have a pretty good idea what happened. I was very close to getting to SOB hill. You know how after riding SOB you can turn right after the bridge and climb back up for another go? After the climb you can go left to start Jackrabbit Run or turn right on the bypass trail to do SOB again.
That right hand bypass trail has a relatively new tree down near the end. A ridearound has been made or just happened over time. The way that ridearound rejoins the trail you are pointed the wrong way and I don't think there is a sign at this new connect point.
So I believe he rode that bypass trail and was dumped back on the trail going the wrong way. Either that or he rode up SOB without even realizing it. I am thinking that is not what happened.
First the connection point needs to be rerouted to drop you on the trail heading the correct direction. Secondly a sign needs to be put there to take care of any other confusion.
Just trying to avoid any more close calls. Thanks!
