While getting in a little 45 min exercise ride at Patapsco Hollofield, on the Old Ranger Trail, I saw construction of a new dirt and gravel access road. It looks like it's going to the same place that the PAVED access road already goes to, a powerline substation in the power line clearing. Now many of you might not be familiar with this section of the park, but there's already a part of the trail that doubles as a access road to that substation, that they paved sometime ago. Why they have to add another one that: 1. they didn't totally route in the clearing destroying forest in the process and 2. It seems they destroyed forest 1-300 ft from where the road is...is beyond me. ...and of course parts of the trail are unrecognizable, thankfully I'm very familiar with this trail... could someone pass this onto the trail liaison of this section to find out what has happened? Again it's on the Old Ranger Trail as it passes thru 2 power line clearings. Also check the starting point of the new road near the head of the Lost Pond Trail, thanks

I may head out there Sunday and have a look. I'll know I'm in the right area if I do the Old Ranger Trail loop right?

This sounds like it's the same thing BGE has been doing all along the power line cut. It looks like clear cutting 50 feet into the woods and then they come back and plant new trees ( I'm guessing ones that don't grow as tall ). While it's happening it's a mess.

Good point, but they already have a paved road in there from another direction. I just hate to see "forest steamrolled" for no reason, especially where there's 1 "figure 8" trail in this section of the park and they've really screwed up a good 1-200 ft of it.

Yes. The problem areas are in both clearings, so you won't even have to go up to the tower if you don't want to.

thats exactly what it looks like.

true that !
