View Full Version : No retrofitting 2008 and earlier Rebas with new through-axle lowers

I saw that the 2009 Rebas will come with the Maxle Lite through-axle, which is supposed to stiffen up the fork compared to the conventional quick release. I sent an email to Rockshox to ask whether the new lowers will fit earlier Rebas, which might be a nice upgrade, although probably pretty spendy.

No such luck. New lowers are incompatible with pre-2009 forks.

I sent a double-secret email to see if this is correct or not. Probably correct...

The Rockshox guy that replied to me is:

Tim Jones
Minister of Misinformation
SRAM Dealer Service USA
800.346.2928

Taking a closer look at the email, I see that his title renders his answer suspect. Let us know what your insider tells you when you get the encrypted email back.

Roger that. Sometimes these guys will tell you 'no' for official purposes when the 'yes' means you void your warranty and they don't want that...

From SRAM:

'We have not tested it and subsequently don't approve it for use or recommend installing 09 lowers on an 08 chassis and internals. The major rub comes in the difference of bushing height, set depth and span from upper to lower.'

I asked a follow-up regarding whether it is POSSIBLE even though it is not recommended...

Would’nt it be easier to just sell the old shock and buy a new one?

BTW, is there more info about this shock?

Bushing height I think I can make a pretty good guess at. Set depth and span from upper to lower? Not so much.

Any help?

Eric

Dang! 52% off an Ultegra Crankset! That's information I can use! :)
We should do a poll of who now has both Chainlove and S&C Alerts set up.

Oh, I mean, support the local shops! Oasis Bike Works!

Funny you should mention that. After I posted the screenshot and noticed the alerts, I thought "Oh Jeez, now I'm busted."
