Just wondering if anyone else is planning on spending the morning Biking DC this Saturday, Sept. 14th. I will be riding the 36 mile ride and then stopping by the National Museum of the American Indian's First Annual Pow Wow on the national mall following the ride. If anyone is interested in a riding partner, hit me up a message. This Pow Wow is the first on the mall ever in the history of the US. Thanks.

I wish I would have read your post before the ride. I never seen a Pow Wow up close. I would have loved to experience this event. How was it?

Hey, yeah, I'd hoped someone would've caught the post prior to the ride as well. I didn't make it to the pow wow, but I some friends of mine dropped by, and they said it was very well-attended. I know the people who planned the event and they also indicated the event was a tremendous success. By the way, I ride the trails between DC and Alexandria often, so if you are interested in a riding partner... I have also been planning on riding through rock creek park, but haven't got around to it yet... ever been ?

Cool! How is it? The loop I do on my trail from Alexandria to Georgetown and Back is roughly about 20+ miles. Is the terrain varied at Rock Creek park? I ride a full suspension mountainbike, GT idrive to be exact. Thanks.

I also have a dual suspension rig. I think that dual suspension is overkill for Rock Creek. However, I do Rock Creek to gain endurance.
I start at Beech and Rockville Pike. I take Beech until I get to the zoo where I ride the Rockcreek trail until I pass by the zoo where I catch the trail on Rockcreek Parkway. I ride the Rockcreek Pky trail pass the Watergate and I cross into Virginia at the Memorial Bridge. From the Memorial Bridge I ride down to the trail next to GW Parkway and head North. I cross back into DC at the Key Bridge. I then take M Street to Pennsylvania where I go back down to Rockcreek Pkwy and retrace my path home. The total ride is 29.2 miles.
Now, I need something with a few more steep hills. Rockcreek has a few hills that are steep, but they aren't long by any means.

Want hills? You should do the Warrenton Wickedness century. If you have a fax #, I can send you the cue sheet. It's about 105 miles of rolling Appalachian foothills. Better bring the road bike.

I am interested in this cue sheet. Is their any way that you can scan it and put it online?
That would be GGRRREEAAATT.

I'll see if I can dig it up tonight - the last hill is a real killer, and of course it's right around mile 102, and you pretty much have to go into it from a stand-still. I think I also have cue sheet for a Laytonsillve (sp?) loop that's about 50 or 60 miles, also pretty hilly. I think it goes out towards Frederick and back. You might also want to consider the Poolesville loops, to include the Sugarloaf mountain option. I haven't done Sugarloaf yet, but I hear it's a decent climb. I am not sure if I have driving directions to all the start points - did most of these while training for the AIDS Ride last year. The Poolesville rides usually start from Riley's Lock on the C&O, and often PPTC (Potomac Pedalers Touring Club) has Saturday morning rides there. I think the category is typically between B, and A. I have found the actual pace to be around BB. I'd also be willing to xerox and mail you any cue sheets.
