My singlespeed project is coming along nicely. All I need is spacers for my rear cog (en route), and a rigid fork.
It should be standard size, 1-1/8th, I guess.
If you've got a nice fork just sitting around, lets make a deal. :D

What kind of frame is it? By the time that 1 1/8" steer tubes took over as the standard, most bikes had suspension corrected geometry. Do you have the original fork to measure? If I'm not mistaken, 420mm is the axle to crown height for an 80mm fork. A-C is measured as you might guess, from the center of the front wheel axle to the bottom of where the headset crown race mounts.
Bikeman (http://www.bikeman.com) lists many rigid forks in their single speed shop. In the details for most, they list the axle to crown height.
Hope that helps a little.

it's a Kestrel CSX composite frame. The big gripe with the frame that I've read is that the geometry is setup for rigid forks, because Kestrel never updated the frame design when suspension became the craze. Evidently it's pretty expensive to lay a new mold for a carbon fiber bike....
The Kestrel originally had the Fox Float 80 RL you may have seen on my cannondale.
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Ahhhh yes. I remember. You had a post up on MTBR looking for a CF Fork. I think Ricky suggested the Pace.
IF will do a custom fork for you. They can go down to 398mm A-C which is pretty normal for a non-adjusted fork.
I'm ordering a fork from them for a bike of mine. I need 420mm A-C and disc tabs, but for a 1" steer. I haven't heard back what it will cost me. It won't be cheap though. Their stock forks are $300.
There are cheaper ways to go. I'm not sure there are sweeter ones though. :)

Peds,
Teesdale (tetcycles.com) makes custom forks as well. I know a few guys have run them on the MTBR SS board...

bikeman had one or two 1-1/8 non-suspension adjusted forks.
those teesdale forks look nice and seem really reasonably priced for custom work.
both of those options seem like the right choice. thanks for the info.

They make a really light alum fork that is 398 A-C. I know because one originally shipped with my 100 mm designed frame (1.5 yrs ago) and the steering was WAY off. I swapped it for a suspension corrected fork, but the Kinesis was a nice, light fork, just too short for my frame.

esfand, i have a Black rigid GT fork, steel, 1 1/8". I used it to build up a GIANT XL1.75 years ago, then almost immediately replaced it with a RockShox Mag21 (remember those?) It's old, but in almost new shape. Steerer is 8.5+", A-C is 395mm as close as I can measure. No disc tabs.
Send me an email if you're interested. I live in Woodstock, which is around the Columbia area.

I ride the Kenisis fork right now. You're right about it being a nice fork and very light. It is pretty darn harsh though. Even with 215 pounds of me on it, there isn't much give in that fork. I'm not sure that I'd buy another one. I might though... just because it is freakishly light and plenty strong.

As of this afternoon, the kinesis has been ordered. The other reasonably priced options I saw were just too heavy for such a light frame, I felt. I think I might put the Hot S's or an even wider tire on the Kestrel and run them at a low psi to gimme a little cushioning.
Hopefully this will stave off Pace lust for a while. I can't wait to see what the whole SS thing's about.
If the Kestrel's BB proves to be too flexy under SS torque loads, as some have suggested, I guess I'll turn it back into a geary, and maybe convert my cannondale.
LVM, thanks for the offer. I'll drop you a line if the Kinesis transfers too much kinetic energy. Wow, that wasn't even close too funny.
