Anybody know if the rain hit that area hard? Thinking about riding tonight, but not if the trails are too soft.

Thanks,

Greg

We got hit pretty hard last night. I'd give it a day at least

The rain in the area last night was ridiculous I'd at least wait until tomorrow. Sorry :( I wanted to go too.

I moved thread to trail conditions because Rides is for planning rides.

Thanks for being responsible about Patapsco. Give it a day or so.

I dunno, it might be ok this afternoon. I'm not going to be up there before this afternoon (nor am I riding at all today) but it's been pretty dry and it didn't rain for THAT long...

I'll defer but it might be ok...

Thanks for the replies. I looked for a trail conditions forum and must have looked right past it. Sorry about that!

We got over 2" of rain last night, so it will be more than a day IMO.

One of the better ways to predict trail conditions is by checking rainfall totals. There are several in the region on wunderground, but you need to check multiple as rainfall totals vary and not all stations record rain accumulation.

Anyway, here are a couple nearby ones that both show over 2" last night

Over 2" is important as is duration. If it was 2" in 10 minutes, the vast majority would run off. If it was 2" over 10 hours, that's different.

Also, considering the small amout of humidity and sun today, I'm betting on reasonable this afternoon.

I know, I'm pushing this a bit. If I get time on my way out in a few hours, I'll try to check it out.

This is academic, of course. If I was planning on riding mtn today, I would probably go home and get on my road bike just to be sure...

Rode all over the Ho. Co. side starting from Rockburn. Surfs up; conditions are fantastic. That last storm must of soaked in quick. The only trouble spots were the dry sandy sections. Most trail was gripy and fast.

Same conditions last night except I rode all over the Baltimore Cnty side

It was dry here in Annapolis this morning so I went up to Avalon around 8:00 am today. Looked like it had just rained. I was doing figure 8 laps on the rockburn branch loop and a section of ridge trail that connects back by the old houses and open field. Most everything was still hard-packed, just slick. There were two little spots on ridge with little puddles and one spot was soft. All in all I'd say good conditions. Not sure about the chronic wet areas though.
