Those that know me, relax - I'm not bailing on the sport after one ride with ye all! But having ridden the Marin Tuesday night around Wakefield, and again locally last night, I've realized it's a tad too big for me, and just not my cup of tea. Great bike, but I'd be better served buying something that fits, so I'm offering her up for sale, and dipping back into the market for a smaller rig for myself.

Anyways, here's the spec. Bike was custom built by Tom Delacy, head of product development at WTB. Mr. Peter Beers has had his tools all over her (yikes!) and can vouch for it's solidness:

Frame - Medium Marin Rift Zone
Rear - Fox Float AVA, purchased Oct. 04
Fork - Rock Shox Psylo SL, purchased Oct. 04
Derailleurs - Deore front, XT rear
Shifters - Deore trigger (can replace with SRAM X9)
Wheels - WTB Speedisc hubs and rims, with WTB Mororaptor tires
Cassette - SRAM 11-32, and new SRAM PC-99 chain
Headset - Brand new (just two rides) Chris King Threadless
Saddle - WTB Laser V Ti
Brakes - Hayes Hydraulics
Cranset/BB - XT
Easton bars, stem, seatpost

Bought for $1,265 with shipping, plus $120 for the new headset - total of $1,385. Looking for (bear in mind this cash was laid out just a week ago!) just $1,150. My loss, is your gain... and my email is gaz@gedmunds.com

edit... and here's a pic!

;) hahaha-- just kidding , of course!

Hey Gary, it's me, Brad, I was out on the ride with you Tuesday. Pleasure meeting you.

Not to sound persnickety, and I mean no offense, but maybe you should try tweaking that rig a bit before bailing on it. You do have a lot of $ invested, and it's a sweet rig. Just glancing at the photo, looks like the seatpost is up fairly high. Have you tried adjusting it up & down, see if it feels any better? How's your standover height w/the top tube? I didn't pay that much attn., but it seemed like the bike was the right size for you.

Just curious.

Heya Brad, course I remember ya! You need to come beering with us next time, missed Barb careening off her stool that made my spills look almost elegant! :p

Yep, I sure did tweak the seatpost - that photo is the one sent to me when I was in the buying process. I've lowered it considerably and actually once I'm on and pedalling, it's not bad at all. It's more a case of the standover being too high for me - when not on the saddle, I'm almost on my tiptoes with the affore mentioned top tube, and the "boys" are brushing on it.

I hear ya, me lad! Gotta watch that. (You ever see a Canadian mountain biking/freeride show called Drop Ins? They do some amazing stunts on that, but on one, this guy's riding North Shore type stunts, blows a big drop off one of 'em, crashes. Starts jumping around, groaning, "'oh! My boys met my seat!" :(

That's a major bummer. Maybe platform biking shoes? ;)

Good luck; hope to see you out there again.

Oh, you're funny. You're really forkin' funny!! ;)

Yeah, I'll be back out again - although I prolly won't on Tuesday, since I've got dinner plans with my girlfriend. But rest assured that I'll be riding this Marin, danger to the boys or not, until it sells - it's too nice to just sit in my basement!

So what is the standover height? Alternatively, how tall are you/what's your inseam measure?

Is a 17.5 - I believe the standover height is 31. I'm just 5'6, and have an inseam of 29 or so?

Agreed! Of course, there's always the baseball catcher's essential accessory, the cup. ;) :D

(Which reminds me of the old joke about the Irishman & the Englishman, next door neighbors, involving one's chicken laying an egg on the other's property....ever hear it? One of my wife's favorite jokes)

Cheers!

This is a nice bike! I really wanted to buy this bike. I tried very hard to convice myself to buy this bike.

I gave it a spin today, and it is a fun ride! Handles well, climbs quite nicely, and runs over obstacles with ease. Unfortunately, it was just too small - my loss, but another's gain!

Hey, I TOLD ye all it was a nice bike!!

What I DIDN'T mention, and what Drew discovered today, was that the bike isn't actually a medium, it's a small - so instead of a 17, it's a 15.5. (Which is going to make hunting for a bike that fits me a LOT of fun...)

Email issue is resolved, by the way. And the frame year is 2003.
