I just bought a Thudbuster and I need to grease the post!
What kind of grease you you suggest?
Marine?
White Lithium?
Thanks,

Hey Andy.
With mountain bikes, I've had the best luck with synthetic greases like the ones available from Pedros and Finish Line... At least those are the brands that I've used.
On seat posts, I use a tiny film of grease to just help with insertion and removal of the seatpost. Anything more than that and many frames have problems holding the seatpost in the right position. The post slips.
Lithium grease is better for cup and cone bearings in areas that are not going to be affected by water. With use it becomes more liquid and if its subjected to any water, it washes away. I use lithium grease on my old campy road and track hubs. They're smooth as class and will spin for ever.
I haven't used Marine grease, but I imagine that if its good enough to be named after a branch of our armed forces, then it might be a good option. Semper Fi! ;)
Hope that helps.

Thanks Peter!
I think it's marine as in marina/boat grease. LOL!
I read a couple reviews on MTBR on Phil's and Finish line and both apparently become liquid after a while to!
Thanks for the tip on the seat post. The directions instruct you to put some on before installation. I'll be sure to use it sparingly!
Thanks,
-Andy

Finish line makes a lithium (white) and synthetic (red). I've had good luck with the synthetic.
As for Phil, I haven't used it lately, but "back in the day" the stuff lasted for ever in the old style bottom brackets. I remember going for a whole season with Phil in my Campy Nuovo Record bottom bracket... including winter rain and snow rides. I overhauled the bike in the spring to prepare for race season and the grease was perfect.
It wasn't mountain biking, but hey, it survived what a lot of greases wouldn't.
Bottom line... Pedros synthetic grease seems to work pretty darn well for everything. The only reason I got the finish line stuff was because the shop I was in at the time didn't carry Pedros. Once it was in the grease gun, it seemed silly to switch.
Now that you mention it, I think that is the only tube of the finish line red grease that I've ever seen. Hmmmmmmm
Oh well. Happy greasing.
Peter
PS. I knew what you were talking about with the Marine grease. I was just being my normal sarchastic self.
