Howdy,

I am new to MORE, Will I rec a welcome package or something? Just wondering.

I am also new to MTB. A true novice. I purchased a Giant Ranier in mid May, put some slick tires on it; did some road training and then participated in the DC AIDSRIDE in June. Since then I have been on the road a few times. I really want to get off-road. Looking for suggestions and beginner rides.

The packages should be mailed shortly. See morsetaper2's reply to gmr2048's post on 9/4 in the 'MORE Board' forum section.

Dave,

Thanks for joining MORE, and welcome. As Wes said, our new member packets should be going out shortly.

As for first-time rides, there are a few options. First, keep your eyes on the ride board for beginner rides. We're limited by the number of volunteer ride leaders, but we're trying to increase the number of organized rides for first timers. We may also run a few bootcamps later this year, and next so watch our schedule for those as well. Once you get a few rides in, you might try some of our casual paced intermediate rides at easier places like Cedarville, Rosaryville, or Black Hills. Once you get a little more confident on the dirt, give some of the casual paced intermediate rides a shot at Wakefield or Shaeffer. Riverbend and Great Falls are also decent places to learn the basics. In no time you'll be hankering for the rocks and hills at the Shed or Gambrill, but definitely give those other places some time first.
