I went out twice this week, and its in pretty good shape. just a few puddle spots to walk around, there is a big tree that has blown over and is leaning against another tree right over the trial. its gonna come down eventually, i dont want crossing under it when it does.

How is Laurel Hill now?
The guy who built our pump track (http://www.benblitch.blogspot.com/) in Chambersburg said he's going to work at Laurel Hill soon. He builds great trail, you're in for a treat there.

went there last weekend. someone flagged alot of low hanging tree branches, etc. dont know if it was MORE or the park staff. the trail other than those low hanging spots is in good shape. that huge tree that i mentioned in the previous post is gone.

FYI, Fairfax County Park Authority has hired IMBA Trail Solutions to start work on the next phase at Laurel Hill!
Here is the description from Rich Edwards:
Laurel Hill phase 2 is underway. 6+ miles of hardened meadow
singletrack is now under construction. By mid October IMBA should
have a 10 person team on site and the "trail factory" will be in full
production mode. Before X-mas the hardened singletrack should be
completed along with 2 half mile mtb specific loops with berms and
mini drops.
This will be in the meadows section of LH and the crew will be working everyday Mon- Fri- just in case you feel like dropping off some cookies or something.
Trail Solutions will let us know when they need some volunteers to come out. I think at the moment it is mostly mechanized trail building in the meadows which won't need much volunteer work.

In my dream world it would look like this:

From previous conversations with Rich, I believe the new sections will around the old prison dairy facility on the other side of Lorton Rd. Section K at this link.

I would guess that there will be a connecting trail from the CCT, (Laurel Hill Greenway on the map) through section J.
Hardened meadow singletrack would likely be similar to the section of the Giles Run Trail that runs around the pond.

Rich from Trail Solutions is working on a map. I think most of the meadow trail will be in the J and K areas. This is open meadow so they have to put in a hardened trail (read: lots of stone dust type material) in order to try to keep it ridable and dry throughout the year. It should be a fast and flowy section of trail. This will also run near future horse paddocks which should be cool in that it will give mtbers and horses and opportunity to coexist and get very used to each other. The Trail Crew will also be working a lot in section L as well. There are lots and lots of briars out there which are pretty unforgiving. So it will be a challenge to keep them mowed and cut back. They are discussing how to create shaded areas in order to keep them controlled.
