I will be driving out to WISP probably early on Saturday morning, staying the night, and driving home on Sunday after the race. Haven't decided yet if I am going to camp or try to get a hotel room. If someone wanted to ride with me, I might be talked into sharing a campsite and my truck for transportation. I could probably take 3 other people in the truck, comfortably.

The wife and kids are staying home for this one, so it could actually be a good time!
^^^kidding, of course!

Let me know if you're interested.

I'll be up there Friday through Sunday, bringing my friend Delmar with me to. (different delmar).

Might possibly need a place to stay saturday night, but we'll see what happens.

Pirate, if you want to meet up, i'll have a white Iron Horse Yakuza and blue/silver Giro FF helmet.

Pirate, I was considering heading up to Wisp at the same time schedule as you, if I could kaah-puuhl with you that would be great. Will it be too hot to camp though? I'll let you know by the 17th, is that cool?

Yeah, you are welcome to ride with me. I will be leaving from Columbia, but could meet up with you anywhere along the way.

I don't know about the heat. I can't imagine it would be TOO hot way out there, but ya never know. Even if it is hot, we're DOWNHILLERs, dammit! We can deal with a little heat! :D

I've got my room booked already, and I think Levi and Leon are staying with me.

Pirate. I've still got those springs for you.

Levi and Leon?! I miss those guy. Leon with the random ass comments, and Levi being...Levi.

Delmar, are you bringing your brother as well? If so, we'll have that same group going again. So confusing.

Alright... I think I will try to book a room too. Maybe we can all get some drinks at the hotel bar. :)

I totally forgot about those springs!!! Still in for buying 'em, just forgot about it.

Well, there's always the option of nature'ing it out. I'm bringing my own tee-pee though. I'm about 80% sure I'll be going.

As I mentioned earlier, you'll get a definite answer before the end of next Tues. Blue skies, blue skies!

Actually, there's been a change of plans... I'm still going, but I will be leaving on Friday after work, and will be towing my trailer out to Bumblebee Campground. You ARE still welcome to ride with me though, if you don't mind leaving on Friday.

If I bring everything with me to work, I could make that work. I get off at 5 and depending where you are located, I can get there within the hour. So no worries on leaving early. :)

Ok, so unfortunately Pirate's out for Wisp this weekend, any chance I can hitch a ride up and stay with anyone this weekend? If possible, many thanks. :)

Edit: Alright, I think I might be hitching a ride with Delmar and co.

What's the registration procedure for the race and do I need a USAC License?.. because I do not have one. If that's not an issue then I would be interested in going as long as I can find a place to stay. I have a truck so I'm set for transportation.

Reg. process is fill out a form and pay some money. Depending on a class, you might need a lisence, but i haven't had to show one. I need a place to stay for Sunday night, would not mind paying money and sleeping on a floor.

Anyone have some floor space they can lead out? It'll be for me and a friend. Just for Sunday night.

Ok here is the deal as I know it.

Fees:
1 DH Race $55
2 DH Races $100
Dual Race $35
All 3 $125
USAC One Day License (beginner and sport only) $5
USAC Yearly License (expert and pro) $65

Non USAC license holders must buy a one day license (I think you would need to buy 2 one day licenses to cover sat and sun, but I'm not sure)

When you get to Wisp, go to the Wisp Outdoors building which looks like a big white permanent tent. Fill out the entry form and waiver and then go pay. They take credit cards.

They will give you a number plate and a wrist strap for lift access. I usually just put my wrist strap somewhere on the bike instead of wearing it on my wrist.

I expect this race to be crowded 200+ riders so expect 30-45min to get back to the top after a run on the lift. If you can, get 5-6 guys to hot seat in a pickup truck, as wisp is shuttleable. So allocate some gas money to give to the owner of the truck you manage to hitch a ride in.

Wisp did do a bike shuttle last year (bike in shuttle, person on lift) to speed things up, but there were still plenty of riders who insisted on taking their bike on the lift which kept things slow anyway.

Also Akern don't you mean you need a room for Sat night? I think it may be hard to find a place, you may want to camp out.

I'm really sorry I had to bail on the trip... Hated to leave Phil in a lurch, but kid #2 (infant) is starting daycare next week at absolutely ridiculous rates. I didn't realize just how bad the daycare was going to hurt until yesterday. If I want to stay out of bankruptcy, I will really have to watch my money for the next few months.

Sorry again, Phil.

No worries Brian, unlike myself, you're a responsible adult. :)

I'm hitching a ride up with Delmar and will probably crash on the floor in their room. I'm properly stoked to ride Wisp!

June 19th, 2008, 12:28 AM
Delmar, possibly have room for 1 or 2 more on the floor for Saturday night? Will pay handsomely or go into slavery for you.

Other then that, i think i might sleep in my car saturday night. See what DH-ing makes you do?

I have no more room. Wisp's hotel rooms are small, and we have 4 already. Sorry. Bring a tent and go to that campground.

Yeah, it was. I'm bummed out i couldn't stay for sunday's race. I would of been on the podium with how fast i was going.

On the other hand, I did come out with something good this weekend. I'm going to be on a team, although my "athlete" position will be short lived.

1st on Beginner Jr. for saturday's race. 2:53.79 was my time.

2nd out of 3 :D

gotta love mid-atlantic "competitive" DH racing ;)

has wisp expanded any of their terrain to make it worth a trip up there? my GF's family stays up there every summer and i might bring my heckler with me and deal with the slow lift for a day.

They have built some ladder drops, and a easy road-gap, the dual course has bigger jumps than last year.

They have also added for the family:
The mountain coaster
Dune buggy rides
Man made white water rapids
