VentureQuest
You may have seen my prior requests for assistance with VentureQuest posted here and on the LISTSERV.
VQ will take place on Oct. 6...less than one month from today.
Following is e-mail that I received Thursday from Jim Harmon, the event coordinator, that gives specific information regarding the level of support he's looking for from MORE.
Now is the time to step forward, if you'd like to help.
Please forward to me your willingness to serve...I'll handle the liaison with Jim.

Stu,
I was wondering if you would like to be a volunteer team captain this
year for VentureQuest. The race will be run over the weekend of October
5-6. We need 21 volunteer team captains this year and I would love if
you would be one of them.
As a volunteer team captain you would help recruit, train, supervise,
and motivate a team of 3-15 volunteers in a variety of jobs such as
course marking, check-in, food and water stops, course marshalling,
parking, challenge monitors, the finish line, etc. You would make
decisions, solve problems, communicate with the race directors, help
clean up, etc. Don’t worry…….these jobs are not difficult and the only
requirements, other than time, are a good attitude, a sense of adventure
and the willingness to have a whole lot of fun.
All 21 Team Captains must be available Saturday 10/5 (Check-in day)
and/or Sunday 10/6 (Race Day) and attend the four pre-race team captain
meetings. We will also meet for a thank you party the evening of
October 11th. All meetings will take place at Hemlock’s Dining Hall
(directions are below). The meeting times, dates, and general topics of
discussion are as follows:
Meeting #1 Wed 9/18 from 7pm-9pm
Pizza and kickoff (bring empty stomach)
Race overview
Role of the team captain
Volunteer management
Assign site locations
Meeting #2 Sat 9/21 from 9am-12pm
Site logistics
Communication
Safety
Meeting #3 Wed 10/2 from 7pm-9pm
Distribute equipment and gear
Your volunteers!
Meeting #4 Sat 10/6 from 9am-11am Final questions and answers
Meeting #5 Thur 10/10 from 7pm-? Thank You Party at a local
bar/restaurant
In VentureQuest tradition, a portion of this year's race proceeds will
be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, Inc. With
VentureQuest 2001, we were able to raise $2000 for the Make-A-Wish
Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, Inc. and $1000 for the Pentagon Victims
Fund. We are happy to help such a worthy cause and hopeful that, with
your help, will be able to far surpass last year's donation
Our volunteers play a key role in the success of this event. Without the
support of enthusiastic and caring volunteers, producing an event such
as this would not be possible. Thank you so much for considering this
opportunity.
If you are available and interested in helping as a volunteer team
captain, please forward your contact info and race weekend availability
(Sat, Sun, or both) to me as soon as possible. I will get back with you
regarding your assignment. Thanks again and let me know if you have any
questions.
