All,

For the most part Wakefield was drying out nicely and should be rideable for the weekend. Mike closed off Phase IV this morning due very wet and muddy conditions. The sections of Phase IV that were not armored got very wet and then folks who insisted on riding turned the trail into MUSH!

Please respect the closure and wait for the trails to dry. Just checking it out and agreeing that it WAS too muddy to ride won't work this time.

I just got back from a nice long loop around Wake-o-tink.

Worst spots in Accotink were one or two places where the trail crosses a waterway (duh), and the only spot in Wakefield that I wish I hadn't ridden was the 495 area (before the skybridge).

Someone also closed off the extreme south end of the non-race creek trail (where is enters the field) with yellow tape, similar to how Phase IV is closed off.

The south end of the stream trail was closed earlier this week because of a large tree down on the trail where the trail gets very close to the stream. A decision was made to possibly re route away from the stream bank. We are waiting for approval from the Park Authority Naturalist before the re route can be built. Areas to avoid at Wakefield are the south end of the stream trail, the first half of phaseIV ( the section that runs closest to the powerlines is still open, enter-exit or turn around at the berm on the sewer line) and the 495 fence (skybridge) trail.

accotink park will have lots of activities during this weekends springfield days. likely parking will be difficult so you may want to park at wakefield (if you dont already)

Rode it yesterday and it was great with the exception of a couple of one muddy spot.

Conditions were pretty darn GOOD through out the Park.

Mike and I talked this morning and he'll probably open all of Phase IV tomorrow morning. Hopefully the formally wet areas will still be semi soft and riders (by riding over the play-doh) will flatten out the ruts.

One word of warning - As we were crossing the stream in the bowl there was a very distinct fuel type smell. A couple of the guys thought it smelled like diesel fuel. I have no idea where it was coming from but we exited the bowl and reported it to the Park.

Just an FYI

Mike reopened Phase IV yesterday. Some spots last night were a little soft, but at least the ruts didn't harden with the tire tracks still in them.

If you go out today (Or this weekend) just ride through them and help flatten the dirt out.
