I'm looking to buy a rack to put on my bike for carrying groceries, plants and the like. Nothing special needed--just a functional rack that can take paniers, should I decide to get them. Thanks.

I've got one. I'm in MD 21050 and ride Loch Raven.

I recommend no less than Blackburn Racks. Everything else I've used eventually breaks, or is too heavy, or the bars are too big to fit some panniers.


My Blackburn Racks have survived years of 10-20 bike tour camping trips carrying 40-50 pounds of gear, 8 years of bike communting, and a car-bike accident with the road grinding away part of the rear rack. In that accident the rack protected the rest of the bike. The rack is still in service.

It is a Blackburn rack in perfect shape. I will sell it cheap.

Unfortunately, both the responders live at least an hour away from my house (I live in DC). I may have to wait on this for a little while...

The rack doesn't weigh much. I'm sure shipping would be $8 at most.

Why? They aren't that expensive new. Any number of bike shops, both in DC and throughout the region, sell pannier racks. Not to mention online retailers.
