I've got some Rock Shox forks with cracked drop outs and/or lowers. Are the lowers (outer leg casing) interchangeable between same models that may be a year or two different? I'm trying to make a working fork out of 2-3 damaged ones. Thanks for the help.

it'll probably depend on the fork & the year... most fork manufacturers will keep the castings for parts like this standard for a couple of years between re-toolings just to save money on designing/making new ones. don't assume that they're the same just because they look the same externally, there may be internal changes (different bushing locations/lengths etc.)
i'd call rock shox and see what they say is compatible.

Damn, 2-3 broken lowers? That's amazing.

Not all have cracked lowers. Its just that I have 3 forks, each with some sort of problem w/ them, and I wanted to see if I could make one good fork out of the bunch. I'll call SRAM.

That lower superstructure is made of magnesium.
It will burn great in a campfire.

Which fork is it? I know you can use the same lower for the SID from a number of model years.
Here's a link (http://aebike.com/page.cfm?action=details&PageID=30&SKU=FK4294). Same lower from '99 to '06. Not bad!

Just got off the phone w/ SRAM. Turns out the lower castings are exact so I have a new project. Great customer service. Thanks for the input guys.

Come on. There are a LOT of 90 pound female XC racers who find them adequately stiff.

Because the 98 SID was so much stiffer? Then again, everything feels stiff at 63mm of travel
