Fairland.
Just to put things into perspective. Fairland Park trails are not all complete, but you can ride about 6 & 1/2 miles in one loop, which is partially and "up and back."
I don't know what Scheaffer and Patapsco trails were like on January 1, 2005, but if they were wet, next time you can't make it to Gambrill or the Shed, consider a ride at Fairland. The trail condition's on new year's day, were relatively dry, with only two or three usual areas wet. I have had to turn around from wet trails at Patapsco and found the trails at Fairland good. It drains well.

If your not doing anything this Saturday AFTERNOON and it's too wet to ride trails, and you want to get some upper body exercise, and can't commit to a lot of hours, consider joining me in the afternoon for some finishing work on the recently built trail at Fairland. We can either finish scraping the surface of leaves and seedlings or dig in for some bench cutting, or both. I am open to both whatever the majority wants to do and what time is best for all. I was thinking 1 or 2PM start. Any takers?

Is Fairland finished up? I went there maybe 2 or 3 months ago and just got plain lost. How's the marking? I can't ever make it out to build because I work weekends.

Fairland is not finished but mostly will be by end of Spring. There is only one place with any signage. However, there are good blue blazes for a the majority of the Northern loop.

7/2. Conditions are good all around at Fairland, even after moderate rain this week, the trails are firm. There is one section in the southern part that is completely overgrown. It's the reroute around the ditch. It's blazed, but there's no trail anymore. A couple of other sections are showing slight underuse, but nothing major. Thanks to all who helped finish and blaze the trails. Sorry I couldn't make any other workdays.

Near the abandoned VW? Actually, that is a section of trail that has yet to be built! The county approved the cooridor and blazed it but we ran out of time to build this Spring. I'm sure it will be on Austin's list in the Fall.

Actually, crazy as I am, I want to fit in one more trail clearing day this Saturday, July 9--for the section past the VW and the reroute around the ditch, which was blazed but not built yet. Bench cutting will have to wait until the fall. I just want to make it passable.
I will a lead a ride at 8am at Fairland, with trail work to follow at 9:30 for those who care to stay. No hard feelings if they don't. Look for a post soon. 7 mile loop right now.

Not built yet. That explains it all quite well. I've been out there a couple of times in the last couple weeks (Only takes an hour to get there on the bike). Why not make it 3 weekends in a row?

Does that mean you are ready to come out and help finish trail at Fairland if we could work the next three weekends?

Nah. I'm only in town this weekend of the next three. Fortunately, this weekend would be the third, not the first. BTW, I took my fixie out there on monday. Really gave the trails a different character.

Conditions great. As of this writing, up to about 7&1/2+ mile loop. Anticpated final total loop length by next year: 9+ miles. Some sign posts in, but signage not posted yet. Paved trail cuts across southern loop--fence is tempoarary.
