Oy oy!

My web surfing last week lead me to the following page:

http://www.panoramatrails.com/

For those who don't know, Panorama Trails is a privately owned trail network devoted to mountain bikes. Their network appears to be extensive. There is a charge for riding there, but if it is half as good as it looks on the web site, it would be worth it.

Has anyone ridden there? Can people give a review of what's out there?

Thank you.

Peter

I have not been there, but Scott Adams (Mountain Bike America Virginia) raves about the place.

He mentions that it is some of the best singletrack out there. Hopefully he'll stop by and let us know what he thnks...

Ahoy!

I read the reviews on Trails.com and MTBR.com and they pretty much say that it is beautiful, but mellow singletrack. There isn't much challenging terrain there. That said, I think everyone commented that the singletrack that was there was in PERFECT shape and there is at least 31 miles of trails.

That sounds like it is worth the $8 price of admission to check out.

My plan is to do a road trip down there on Saturday, June 15 to spend a day riding. If others would like to join me, I've got room for at least 1 more person in my car (my posse is usually 3). We could also caravan down there if others want to go.

Bwip bwip.

Been there once, had a limited amount of time to ride, so I only rode maybe 40% of the trails, 12-14 miles perhaps. Mostly white trail, sometimes yellow trail, sometimes blue? Got lost a bit. Trails I hit were fun, a bit more technical than I expected. I recall that many sections were more challenging the Schaeffer, hills longer, a bit steeper, turns a bit trickier. Similar to Schaeffer in the varied terrain with a mix of woods and fields, which I enjoy. I'll be back soon to check the whole dern place out.

Oh, I've since read to ride counter-clockwise for optimal fun.

I've ridden there several times - when it was a voluntary contribution system. Keep in mind that $$ talks and this place is privately owned and leased out to hunters so I believe it is mostly closed during hunting season.

The trails are really great twisty singletrack with not too much elevation change. It's easy to get disoriented w/o a map if your unfamiliar with the trails.

I'd describe them as a cross between the maze of trails at Accotink and farmland style of Schaeffer. Poor Farm in Ashland is another comparable trail on technicality and terrain.

I usually keep on going though past Panorama Farm down to Walnut Creek Park on the South side of Charlottesville. It's free and the trails are even better!

Panorama is perfect for those single speeds out there too!

Oy oy!

We've got a small group of people that are going to Panorama Trails on Saturday morning to check out their trails. If anyone wants to join us or caravan down to the Charlottesville area, we'd be happy for the company.

As far as I know, I've got room in the car for one more person if you need a ride.

We'll be leaving around 9am, will make a brief stop at a local bike shop in C'Ville to buy day passes for the trails, and then will continue on to the park. We're planning on being home by 6:30 or 7pm. Due to the large variety of trails, we'll all probably split off into small groups and then meet up in the late afternoon to get some food.

If anyone's interested in joining us, please post here or e-mail me at PedroGringo@yahoo.com.

In the months to come, I'm sure we'll be going back to check out Walnut Hills and some of the other killer trails down in that area.

Peace!

Peter
