The time has come to pick up a skateboard for The Boy. I don't want to give my money to a big box store - can anybody recommend the skate version of an LBS in the Falls Church area? Thanks!

Germantown Cycles has a skateshop section. Pretty good skate stuff there too. Check them out.

Fairfax Surf Shop (http://fairfaxsurfshop.com/) was always my fave, but I honestly haven't been there in a few years. I bought a snowboard from them in 2003.

If you aren't having any luck with a local store, just go the original route: California Cheap Skates (http://shop.ccs.com/browse.do?categoryKey=skate&topnavTrack=skate&incmpid=TNSk)

I bought from them for a solid decade way back in the late 80's and 90's. (Back when you had to send in checks via mail order :D ) I am sure a lot has changed by now, but they are definitely one of the originals.

Valsurf (http://www.valsurf.com/home.php) too.

Theres Pit Crew (http://www.pitcrewskateboards.com/) in Frederick downtown on Market Street. I hear they are world-renowned. It's a skate geeks version of a high end LBS.

EDIT: Whoops! You said Falls Church. Sorry.

east coast board shop on lee highway (hooters shopping center for lack of better geographic reference) has a fine selection of boards, trucks and wheels.

fairfax surfshop on main street is decent also. don't think there's any in falls church.
