I'm looking for suggestions on which chainring to run on a SS with a 1/8" chain.
32T
4 bolt (104mm I think)
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I use 3/32 chianrings with 1/8 chains.
The common names all work well for me, surly, blackspire, and salsa. If you hit logs a lot with your chainring and dont have a bashguard I would avoid the steel surly ring.

I use both Blackspire and E-13 chainrings and have never had any problems. Like Markie said, any of the common brands will do the job just fine. I have, however, seen a Surly chainring fold in half once and we're not really sure how it happened.

Salsa is my go to ring these days. I love the Surly stuff but the chainrings need to be beefed up, I took out 2 of them in short order before moving on.

I didn't have a problem with the 4bolt Surly ring I used. I wore out a Salsa ring real quick though.
Cbass, I have a 32t 4 bolt Surly ring you can have if you're interested. I've changed to cranks with a different bolt pattern. I don't see myself going back to the 4bolt cranks. I also have a 4 bolt bashguard you can have as well. Both are used (ring has about 300-400 miles), but you'd never tell by looking at them. FWIW, I used the surly ring with a 1/8" chain. I can even toss in the chain and freewheel I used with the ring so you'll have the entire matched set. Freewheel is a Shimano MX and has a few more miles than the ring.

I second or third the wimpiness of surly rings. They love to bend even if I don't smack it that hard. I still have one of my bike and the only reason I still do is because it's 1x9 and I have a ton of ground clearance with my 13" BB. It's presently out of round, but not enough to rub on my rohloff chain guide.

My sample of two is pretty small, but I haven't had any problems bending Surly rings, even on a 4 bolt crank. I'm neither a lightweight at 182lbs (was 190 when I started using them), nor am I particularly gentle with them. I frequently grind them on log crossings.
That said, I haven't had any problems bending any chainrings.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm going to pass...going with a new salsa.
