To anybody who is not a pro or a master: I'd like to ride in a group of beginners in the areas of Maryland and/or Virginia. Learn as we all ride. I've been riding only a year, own a hard tail and live in Woodbridge, Va. Anybody interested? comments are welcome also at Silverbird968@yahoo.com

Hey Silverbird!

There are a group of us who ride at Wakefield park every Monday and Wednesday night starting between 5:30 and 6:30pm. A number of us are MORE members, but this is not an official MORE ride. The Monday rides are billed as "intermediate/experienced" while the Wednesday rides are "beginner/intermediate". Even our "experienced" rides are not too challenging. We usually ride for a couple of hours and anybody is free to bail without pressure when they've had enough.

We tend to congregate on the Yahoo group "DCAMB" if you'd like to find us. Please come join us!

Being relatively new to mtn biking (again), I would also have to recommend the Thursday night casual/intermediate rides. They start around 6:45, giving you more time to make it down from work - my office is in Bethesda, so I can appreciate that. Bring a light though - you'll need it if you hang out past 8:30 or so. The terrain is manageable, and you can pick up pointers as well. I pretty much learn by doing, and very much at my own pace. I find the casual group is good to ride with. I'd also be interested in finding people to ride with outside of the organized rides, so if you'd be interested, shoot me an email. I also ride a hardtail, and am pretty much a roadie, so while I'm pretty fast, my technical skills are somewhat lacking.

Silverbird, I have been riding for about 9 years and live in Dumfries. I am over 50 and started out really slow and easy but thanks to MORE I can usually hang with most rides. If you ever want to hook up on one of my rides drop me a line at mtbmore@comcast.net I will be leading a very casual group on Saturday at Conway Robinson State Forest this Sat at 2PM see the ride calendar for details.
