Hi. I'm looking for a trail/xc frame with 4 to 5 inches of travel . It needs to be a size medium and preferably cheap as in around 400 bucks or a bit less. Doesn't need to be real fancy. I just figure that someone here might have something lying around gathering dust. Thanks.

are you looking for a full suspension bike or hardtail when you say 4 to 5 inches of travel?
light, heavy, old, new, long top tube, short top tube, single speed, disc compatible? I have a few frames lying around that could potentially fit the bill for you given some of the different criteria.
post up what you are ideally looking for or an example thereof so we can get and idea of what you are looking for. there are lots of frames bouncing around on the forums, so maybe you can get exactly what you are looking for.

I meant a full suspension trail bike. Like a cannondale prophet or jekyl, giant trance, spec. stumpjumper, trek fuel, etc. For reference the fork that I will be putting on it is a Marzzochi All Mountain 1 with 110-130mm of travel.

I have a 18" 1996 S-Works Team FSR just sitting around. Steel front end, alum rear. Great quality bike, but really old, maybe could use a new rear shock to upgrade the ride to todays rear ends. Im not even sure if that is possible, dont know a thing about rear suspension, especially aftermarket shock replacement. If memory serves me correct it has a Fox Alps 4s? on it if that helps. I can be convinced to part with it, no problem.
but you would probably be better off with something newer.

I am not exactly sure what size is best for me. I am about 5'8 and I assumed that a 17 or 18 inch seat tube would be ideal for me. If you think otherwise let me know.

I go 6 foot and purchased a shorter stem than it came with, so I would guess it would be to large for you.

i have a sweet 2000 Santa Cruz frame and marzocchi bomber fork I was going to post for sale soon. The frame has been ridden, but is still awesome. I regret having to sell it, but it is just too big for me. Frame and fork: $225. Give me a call if you are interested. 301 495 5747. Mark

Thanks for the offer, but I want something that is new enough to be serviceable. If anyone has anything they haven't posted yet, I am still looking.

you should know that it is completely "serviceable" of which I assume you mean ready replacement of bearings and bushings and such. the shock is completely fine from my knowledge just not a supple or active as something more contemporary.
just thought you should know

I have a rocky mountain edge - 2002 or 3 model with two shocks tp pick from - a cane creek cloud 5 or a fox rp something. say 250 for the frame with your choice of shock.
It's a medium - 18" frame. can take pics if interested. I'll have to ship it tho- as it's now out in texas.

Start looking around for some 07 frames online while they last. They are dirt cheap right now! I've seen a bunch of killer deals already.
