In the past, it has opened mid to late march. Its at the discretion of the rangers though, there is no set date.

My mountain biking club at school just had a ride there yesterday, so i think it's open. It's been warm for the past couple of days, and it's pretty hilly, so I think it's good. I can check tomorrow morning if you want. I'm heading up that way for a lacrosse game anyways.

I heard a rumor they are talking about opening it around the 30th. The same weekend as Schaeffer trailwork day. Obviously this is all dependent on the weather and trail conditions. I'll probably hear more about it tomorrow.

Hmmmmmm, interesting. I'll have to swing by there in the morning and check it out.

I went by Schaeffer today around noon and the gate was still closed. I rode Hoyles Mill and the trail conditions were just about perfect. I hope it opens up soon.

At 1pm today:
I had the same thought and called Seneca Creek State park ( the Scheaffer Farms hot line said it was still closed ) to ask them...when???
The response was " later this week ".
Being that today is Friday, there are not many days left this week...so the nice lady said " the trails are still too soft and they are not ready, call back next week. "
That is what I was told.

A few of us were at the Seneca Creek volunteers breakfast this morning and Ranger Powell told me the trails will open next weekend. Since he is the guy with the keys to the gate, I tend to believe his word.
Akern2, were the gates open when your school MTB club was there? Do you go to North Western or QO? That still seems odd to me.

I check the gates today and they were still closed. I go to Northwest, btw. I didn't go with them to bike there, but i'm thinking they either went around the gates or did the Hoyles Mill Trail.
If they did ride Schaeffer, I'm not agreeing with their ideas. I've told the president of that club that Schaeffer has been close for some time now, and i'd give him word when it's open again.

Reason I posted is because I got a request via eMail from a member; I also asked Dave (Schaffer Liason): here's his answer:
No, it is still too wet. There is a phone number (301-924-1998) run by the park and posted on the MORE website that gives open/close status. It will probably open before Easter.
