I am still searching for a new bike and I noticed that Jenson has BMC Suprstroke frames for $900 (53% off MSRP of $1895, apparently a good price) Link (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/FR299H00-Bmc+Superstroke+01+07+Frame.aspx).

Has anyone ridden one of these?

I usually like to buy at local shops but this is a pretty good price.

I had been looking at a Gary Fisher HiFi Deluxe, which I can pick up at Race Pace in Columbia for $2300 if I remember correctly. I also need to price out components and see if it is cost effective to build something like this on my own.

Edit, its not the 4stroke, its the superstroke.

Actually, now that I look at it, it seems a little "heavy duty" for trails around here, no? It seems more like an all mountain rig.

I can get you an 07 Stumpjumper pro frame (anodized) for close to that. Come see me at CityBikes on Sunday.

I rode a 4stroke last year, similar design. Very nice. The frame quality on the BMCs is quite high, and they are great to look at. My old roommate had a BMC road bike and it was damn nice.

Build that up with a Lyric Air or TwoStep, and you'd have a killer all mountain machine. With being mindful on a spec, you could do lower 30s/high 20s? for weight.

Go for it. Geometry isnt really freeride-ish, the chainstays are relatively long, and the headtube is a reasonable 68. I dont think you'd feel it was too slack. With a propedal shock I'd think you'd find it fine for All Mountain/XC stuff. If you wanted to race, probably not.

I'm probably skewed because I use a longer travel bike for everything when I'm not a cross bike.

I think Dirt Rag reviewed the Four Stroke which I think is the cross country version of the frame you are looking at there. As I remember they raced it and loved it.
Maybe you could find the review in an archive on line?
Also Competitive Cyclist http://www.competitivecyclist.com/sells BMC bikes, but I see now they are not carrying the mountain bikes, only the road bikes are listed, not sure why, you might want to check it out.
Hope that helps a little.

I have a BMC 4 stroke. I bought the frame (2006 4 stroke 03) on clearance at smartbikeparts.com for $730 and I spec'ed the build with Greg at Contes (Thanks!). The main reason I got it was because of the size. The 23" has something like a 25.4 inch top tube which is hard to find; however, I probably should have given more thought to the 29ers. After almost 9 months, I still really like the fourstroke.

The fourstroke has 4 inches of travel and is set up with race geometry (steep headtube). The suspension is a very effective VPP (I think it has some ties with the DW-link, but I can't find any mention of it). It is a quality frame, but is very thin in the middle of the tubes. It's a great bike for the area and shines at Fountainhead, Richmond and Douthat.

If you're tall, you can take mine for a spin.

That is what I was thinking and over the weekend I looked at some more info on trails that I will be riding and some of them seem like they would be better suited by a beefier frame with longer suspension, especially some areas of Arcadia, Vientam, Fort Rock, and Bradbury Mountain. I also tend to be pretty hard on my bikes (read:I fall. A lot.). This frame also has an adjustable suspension from 130 to 150mm so as long as I got an adjustable fork I could turn it down.

Punga, unfortunatley, I will be on shift this coming weekend. I may be available next weekend if I am not shooting baseball. I'll let you know!

.
A sub 30lb bike, or even a low 30s bike would be better than my current ride which, if I remember correctly, weighs around 37lbs

No need to come by the shop. If you decide you want to get it, Mike and I can handle it via phone/email for you when you're ready. We don't have any 07s in the shop to show you, but I'd be happy to let you test ride mine some time.

MAN that fork is expensive! The cheapest I could find it was $850 new!

A little better: http://www.ridemonkey.com/classifieds/cat-12/ad-1092/

Or

Both would be a nice complement to that frame.
