Pat Miller, the MD Advocacy director passed this on today:

The Senate budget sub-committee voted to not cut DNRs budget, even though the legislative staff recommended significant cuts. The House makes their decision tomorrow morning. Let's support our parks!

The Board would like to challenge all MD MORE members:

1. Send an email to or call each of the delegates listed below by COB today.
2. Get three other MORE members to send an email to each of the delegates listed below by COB today.

All you need to say is that you are Park user and you would ask that the House take the Senate position and not cut the parks.

Delegate Tawanna Gaines, subcommittee chair (410-841-3058), tawanna.gaines@house.state.md.us
Del. Murray Levy, subcommittee vice chair (410-841-3325), murray.levy@house.state.md.us

Great news--the House Appropriations Subcommittee, chaired by
Delegate Gaines, has rejected all cuts to the Maryland Park Service
budget. This decision follows the equally favorable decision by the Senate last week.

As of now, and because of the emails sent by MORE members, the Maryland Park Service will not face any budget cuts.

Thank you to everyone who sent out emails and please thank your legislators for making such a good decision in light of fiscal challenges.

Until the entire budget is approved by both chambers there could still be changes, but so far so good and we will continue to monitor.

Thanks again.
