Hey all,
Has anyone tried out those skewers that were handed out at the MORE party yet? I tried to look them up online & couldn't find info - are they safe enough for your average XC ride?
I put one on my bike & it seems great, but does it really make sense to defeat the "lawyer lips" on your fork? Thanks for your thoughts,
JK

I don't think the defeat the lawyer tabs. They seem hold the wheel in pretty tight. Rockin one on both the Stumpy and road bike.

I must be a complete idiot, but I can't seem to figure out how these things go on...Scud said someone would be posting a "HOWTO" on how to use them, haven't seen it yet (or JoeP's video post).

Tsunayoshi - it's really easy to put them on. Take your wheel off and remove the old skewer. Remove the nut on the opposite end of the new skewer from the lever (you'll need a wrench). Then there's a spring, followed by the inner "widget" (the part that actually contacts the outside of your fork), and then two more springs that are just like the ones on an ordinary skewer. Take all but the last spring off, slide the skewer through your hub, and then replace the bits in the same order and orientation they were in before. The inner widget should have the rough side toward the middle. You have to compress the outer spring in order to thread the nut back on. Be careful when you do, or you'll have bits all over your garage. Anyway, thread that nut back on, put the wheel back in the fork, and then tighten the nut until the skewer is snug when you crank the lever closed, just like your regular skewer feels when you do that (you will have to fine tune a bit with your wrench until you get just the right feel).
Punga - thanks for your input. You're right - the outer spring pushes the inner widget in so that the lawyer lips should still function in the event the lever comes open while riding.

I want to point the skewers were a donation from the Bike Doctor of Linthicum, Md.

Thanks to Jeff Dalik, the owner, for the donation.

OK, that makes sense. Thanks.
