DuraAce DT shifters are NOISY. Well, at least the right one is. The left one is a joy to use. It has an internal spring that counterbalances the tension of the front derailleur. It's just the indexing on the right shifter that's so obnoxious. I reduced the tension on the mounting screw and it got a bit quieter. Maybe it'll improve after it breaks in a bit. Coming from friction shifters, it is distracting.

Chris

Your right shifter has a return spring to adjust the front derailleur?

I'm confused.

Edit: I understand what you're saying. You just had the left and right switched for the comment I quoted. I wasn't trying to be obnoxious. Early shimano downtube shifters were very loud. Not as loud as the early campy shifters, but close. When they start getting quiet, that is when they're about to stop working. The indexing starts feeling spongey. It doesn't happen as often with the DA ones. The 105 DT shifters were pretty much disposable.

Fixed it. :)

Part of the problem is coming from friction shifters, which are nearly silent. Even the various pre-rapidfire indexing mtb shifters I had weren't this loud.

I can live with it though. It is nice to shift without needing to trim the derailleur. I was getting good at it, but it got annoying at times.
