IMBA Trail Solutions, Rich Edwards and Dan Hudson will be returning to Wakefield to begin Phase IV construction. The new phase IV trails will be between the lower wooded section of phase I and the sewer line closer to 236. The trails will ad considerable distance to the race course section of the park and create an even longer loop for the Wakefield Night Rides.
We will need volunteers for our big workday on Saturday, March 8th. There will be two shifts - 1st shift - 9:00am - 12:30pm - catered lunch courtesy of Potomac Velo Club and the W@W race series - 2nd shift - 1:00pm - 4:30pm. You are welcome to work one or both shifts and join us for lunch either before or after. Bring work gloves, work boots and water, meet in the rec center parking lot between the recycle bins and the skate park. We will also be putting out a call for volunteer during the work week prior to the workday on March 8.

I suspect a ton of people will show up, that being said, will there be enough tools for everyone to work with, and if not are their any particular tools that people can/should bring?

If you have a favorite tool, feel free to bring it - shovel, rake, pruners, etc. We will be clearing leaves and debris for the new trail as well as armoring existing and new trail.

Any one here work in construction or development and have access to culvert remnants? Lengths that are garbage in typical road work are just right for trails! A number of segments are needed for Phase-4.
Specifics? At least 24" diam. 36" would be great as well. Double-wall with a smooth interior. Plastic only! No metal. No PVC.

Here's the quote from Rich.
"Sat: Rich and Dan Wakefield 8am Vol day. unload boardwalk sections from trailer. Possibly install some sections. Build timber culverts. Run fill all day. Finish and closure crews. Need extra wheel barrows. Many wheelbarrows. "
Also for the folks heading out to help on Friday.
"It would be great if there was somebody else who would be available Friday and Saturday who could lead the timber culvert crew. Very simple carpentry with pre-cut boards. "
Friday will be a big push to trail Crew Leaders. If you can make it - Let me know.

The weather isn’t looking very good for Saturday but the trailwork will go on. Actually working wet trails is good because you can see which areas are going to be problems. Bring work boots, work gloves, water and we may also need additional shovels and wheelbarrows.
1st shift – 9 – 12:30
PVC sponsored lunch - (pizza and soda) - 12:30 – 1:00
2nd shift – 1:00 – 4:30
We will meet in the rec center parking lot near the skate park at 9am and 1pm. If you arrive at another time call me and I’ll let you know where you should go but today it was very difficult to heart the cell phone ring. Basically we are working in the back section of the park closest to 236 between the stream trail, power lines and the sewer line trail.
