I am trying to determine the headset on this. The seller doesn't seem to know.
Anyone have any idea?

I believe it takes a standard 1-1/8th headset.

Excellent. I have an older Hardrock with a 1", and replacing with the same would be silly.

I would tend to agree. Any idea when the frame was made?

Asked the seller, but no response. If I were to guess, it would be late 90s early 00s. I think in 03 Specialized went with the combined toptube/downtube connection to the headtube. Hoped I could match color scheme to year, but no luck yet.

Interesting this thing has "never seen dirt". It looks great in the photos.
BikePedia lists "Coal Green/Black" for the 2000 Specialized Hardrock FS (http://www.bike-alog.com/BikePedia/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2000&Brand=Specialized&Model=Hardrock+FS&Type=bike) (Front Suspension). The frame is the same with similar graphics. Keep in mind that Specialized typically has different color/graphic schemes for frames than they do for complete bikes - they may have been doing that all along.
If the photos on BikePedia are to be believed, 2000 was the first year the top and down tubes 'touched' at the head tube. They also list a 1-1/8" headset from the mid '90's to 2002. It also appears from BikePedia that the 2002 Hardrock (http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?arc=2005&spid=20844) is the first year they 'joined' the top and down tubes at the head tube. The 2002 specs list a 1-1/8" headset.
