I just checked the forecast for Monday in Richmond and it is supposed to hit 65. Since Poor Farm Park in Ashland is only 10 miles from Richmond I was thinking of taking a ride down there starting about 10:30am and hitting the Smokey Pig afterward.

Any takers?

If it's rideable I would probably be interested. Never been there.

We can meet at the commuter lot in Triangle exit 150. From there is is about an hour to the trailhead. I can take 3 bikes and 3 people including me. It is very twisty and tight singletrack with two distinct systems. One flat and twisty and one section very Fountainhead like with short steep climbs and descents.

I may have another coming. But we can still meet there.

But rain is in the forecast, so we gotta keep an eye on that.

That's good. Weather.gov is saying 30%, but ending before 11AM. How do these trails handle dihydrogen monoxide?

When Feb 18th 10:30 am
Duration: 90 minutes to about 2 hours depending on the group.
Pace: Casual/Moderate
Difficulty: Intermediate
Contact: Scott Scudamore mtbmore@comcast.net 703 717 1714
Location: Poor Farm Park Ashland, VA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since the trails in the Greater DC area have been too wet, I thought I would venture down to Poor Farm in Ashland VA. The Trail system is about 80 minutes south of the Springfield interchange. See directions below. The forecasted temperature will be in the 60s and the trails drain very well.

Terrain: Poor Farm is generally considered easier to intermediate by most riders. It has two distinct sections: a pine forest with very tight twisting singletrack relatively flat and a series of stream valleys with short steep climbs and descents. All riders joining this ride will need to sign the standard MORE waiver form.

Bikes should be in good working order, and riders should have basic equipment such as a spare tube, water, and trail food.
Weather: To protect and maintain the trails, the ride will be canceled if weather conditions warrant. Information on closures will be posted here and/or in the forum. Volunteers have put a lot of 'sweat equity' into maximizing the trails in Poor Farm Park. Let's not ruin them by riding when it's muddy, eh?

This ride will break into two groups: casual and moderate if needed. Although this is advertised as intermediate terrain, the pine forest section would be considered easier.

After the ride there will be a group going to the World renowned "Smokey Pig" in Ashland on Route 1.

For those wanting to car pool we will leave the Commuter Lot in Triangle VA on the corner of US RT 1 and VA619 at 9:20am. This lot is at exit 150 VA619 East.

If you are going to the commuter Lot ,please contact Scott 703 717 1714 or email mtbmore@comcast.net

Directions : Get off I-95 at Exit 92B (Route 54 West; Ashland). Stay on Route 54 West for approximately 5
miles. Turn left onto Liberty School Road. The park entrance is 0.3 miles down the road. We will meet in the far parking lot all the way into the park. Look for our cars on the right side of the lot.

If anyone cares, it was pretty much the unanimous vote of 10 or so riders that this was a kick-ass ride.

Thanks to Scott for arranging it.

I'd have to say we all had fun. Picture-perfect weather, great trail conditions, no damaged bikes or bods. I haven't ridden sweep for a long time - it was a nice change. Thanks to all for coming down. Make sure and post your occasional group rides up there at the CCVA site. Maybe some of us down here can return the favor and come up for a ride.

Thanks for sweeping and all of your bike handling tips. You should definitely come up when the trails dry out a little.
