My last pair of Performance booties wore through in the toe area from walking sections of trail I was too wussy to ride. I got a new pair for the sale price of $20.00 last week. To help them last longer I decided to try a little proactive protection in the form of a rubber cover.

First you will need this.

Match the color to your bike!

Then dip!

I did a little mountain ride on frozen Monday. Today I rode in on the ice and spent quite a bit of time walking/skidding on my boots. They are holding up well so far. If anyone is interested I will post again after a serious ride with some walking.

-DVery icy. I was definitely glad I was running studs. My most dangerous activity this morning was stopping at intersections and attempting to put a foot down. My boots do NOT have studs on the bottom. :)

Dood, you tryin' to break another bone?Nokian studs make riding on glare ice not much different than riding on pavement. Just considerably slower.

I've used that stuff on tool handles and in a few years it turns to a sticky goo that comes off on your hands, in the toolbox, absorbs grease... Your booties should wear out before that though. It's definitely not the same coating that Channellock et al uses.

I wonder if you could add in a little sand to give yourself some "gripshun' " on the ice.

I know a trail runner who puts screws through his shoes to run on ICE.

You coud try the same thing.

I even have an old pair of MTB shoes you can have. They are size 12

I don't really put my foot down very often, and only ride on ice a few times a year so its not a big deal. I appreciate the offer though.
