Please write your state senator. The General Assembly has had a bill introduced that will severely limit the proffers required by developers.

A comment on this story complaining it was poorly written got me to google other news versions of the story. Many versions of the details exist. It seems to me that the proffer rate on new homes could be cut down to as much as 1/5 of the their current rate, but will average somewhat less.

Regardless of the numbers, I think it's important to make sure that proffers are part of new growth. Once the land is built up in housing, there's no way to get it back for parkland.
