Hey y'all. I don't have a lot of time to spend riding today. I was going to ride FH or Accostink if it hadn't rained. Since that point is moot, I'd like to get out on my "road" bike and go for a spin.

What: Casual ride on the Washington and Old Dominion trail.

When: Sunday, January 6, 2008. Meet at noon. Roll at 12:15.

Where: Meet at the train station in Vienna, VA. It is at the intersection of Ayr Hill Ave. NE and Dominion Rd. NE in Vienna Virginia. Click HERE (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?address=Ayr%20Hill%20Ave%20 Ne%20%26%20Dominion%20Rd%20%20Ne&city=Vienna&state=VA&zipcode=22180&country=US&title=%3cb%20class%3d%22fn%20org%22 %3eAyr%20Hill%20Ave%20Ne%20%26amp%3 b%20Dominion%20Rd%20%20Ne%3c%2fb%3e %3cbr%20%2f%3e%20%3cspan%20style%3d %22display%3ainline%3bmargin%2dbott om%3a0px%3b%22%20class%3d%22localit y%22%3eVienna%3c%2fspan%3e%2c%20%3c span%20style%3d%22display%3ainline% 3bmargin%2dbottom%3a0px%3b%22%20cla ss%3d%22region%22%3eVA%3c%2fspan%3e %20%3cspan%20style%3d%22display%3ai nline%3bmargin%2dbottom%3a0px%3b%22 %20class%3d%22postal%2dcode%22%3e22 180%3c%2fspan%3e%2c%20%20%3cspan%20 style%3d%22display%3ainline%3bmargi n%2dbottom%3a0px%3b%22%20class%3d%2 2country%2dname%22%3eUS%3c%2fspan%3 e%3c%2fspan%3e&cid=lfmaplink2&name=&dtype=s) for a map. There is parking available.

Duration: Do it if it feels good. I'll probably ride an hour out and an hour back. Like I said, I've got limited time today.

Pace: We'll split up into groups if there is more than one of me. I'm happy to adjust the pace to fit other riders. If left to my own devices, I'll ride somewhere between a casual and moderate pace.

Contact Info: Pete Beers will be your cruise director today. He can be reached at 571-241-6666. I'm easy to spot. I'll be riding a silver mountain bike that has been bastardized into a 700c fixie "road" bike with moustache bars. I'll probably be wearing a super sexy MORE wool jersey and a red vest.

Please let me know if you're thinking of showing so I know to wait for you.

Pete

I did 40 miles a few days ago, 20 on the side trail, and the return on paved trail. Great for when its been rainy and don't feel like getting dirty.

It was a perfect ride today. I only had 2 hours for the whole ride, so we did an hour out and an hour back. It felt good. My custom 31 spoke wheel is now a custom 30 spoke wheel. I guess hopping logs on my fixie commuting bike with wimpy road wheels and skinny tires wasn't the best thing I could do for spokely health.

Time to rebuild. :D

Later!

Pete

It was a great day for a ride today. Another great option on these winter wet riding weekends is to hit the roads and gravel roads in loudoun county. We did about 40 miles out there today with a couple thousand feet of climbing thrown in.

Skinny tires on gravel roads can definitely help you overcome the boring road riding i hear everyone talking about. :)
