I just picked up the permanent tags for the Subaru this morning. Even though it's the standard current Maryland number-three letters-two numbers format, I couldn't have picked it better myself. The first four digits of my tags are:
4DRT
"For Dirt" for those that don't read licenseplatese.
Probably the most outrageous personalized tag that I spotted that made it through the censors was the tag "NE14RL6" Just say each character individually and you'll figure it out :p. It took me almost five minutes to figure it out when I first saw it.
Anyone else got good license plate stories?

That's awesome, Sax!
If I recall, when I lived in MD, it was too expensive for personalized plate. But in VA, their cheap. So I have MTN BKNG. I met a guy in a bike store parking lot who had MTN BKN. :D
I think I read somewhere that VA has more personalized plates than any other state. Guess it all depends on how much they charge. It would be interesting to learn if VA takes in more money because they get more participants at the lower price.

The voluntary tax! One of the world's greatest invention IMHO. American genius at its best! :D
Seriously, my understanding is that the proceeds of said voluntary tax goes to education. Who decides that? Wouldn't it make more sense to have the money go to improving bike lanes, for example? Or at the very least have the voluntary taxpayer pick its own good cause, among which bike lanes or alternative transportation?

I think Peter Beers' (Dirt on the forum) plate is EAT DRT.

I was asked in a gas station, "Can you tell me why I shouldn't be offended by your license plate?" I answered, "No." and smiled. The person laughed.

At least I hope that isn't a vanity plate.
It is even funnier if it belongs to someone's grandparents. Who just don't understand why people keep looking at them as they drive by.

When I got my truck a couple years ago (Dodge Ram w/ OE 20" rims) I got my tags from the MVA and the first three were 20S. I have since upgraded to 22's but nonetheless.

That might not be a vanity plate, all vanity plates have to pass a semi-rigorous sensor process in florida, I suspect thats a stat issued plate!

1) Go toDMV's vanity plate builder (https://www.dmv.state.va.us/dmvnet/plate_purchase/select_plate.asp).
2) Select the "Sons of Confederate Veterans" plate option.
3) "WE LOST" is still available as a vanity plate.
Beer to anyone with the guts to purchase it.
The only plate I concocted that could possibly rival the pattern above was filling in the "Mallard" plate pattern (duck on it) with "DUKSHT." "SMOKIN" is already taken, but I thought it might look good on the "Tobacco Heritage" plate.
Have fun playing.

We can always count on walsh to put an unusual and entertaining post on the boards... SMOKR or CANSR are available as are SMKMOR, DIPMOR and CHWMOR. ROLL 1 is taken already but ROLLEM is okay. There are a couple others I tried with varying degrees of success/failure. Now what was I supposed to be doing this morning? Oh yea, work.
