Sunday July 30 – Cedarville State Forest
meet at: Park Office along Bee Oak Road
terrain: easier pace: casual/moderate + moderate/faster
leaders: Karen Garnett, Dan Hudson
Strange as it may sound, once-upon-a-time Waldorf + Cedarville were in heavy rotation on the MORE ride calendar. But then Rosaryville happened and an old favorite was forgotten. In part because R’ville was new + “ours”. Also maybe because it felt more like Mid-Atlantic MTB should – hardwood forest, hard-pack soils, etc.
But Cedarville is still fun. And way different than most other local riding. Think flat + fast, loose + twisty, rooty + sandy. The forest is different too – lots of plantation pine, beavers going wild doing what beavers do, etc. Hard to think of a better place to introduce your buds to real MTB. And for more skilled riders, click the shifter a couple times and rip the lightly used trails. If you live close to the Beltway and are an R’ville regular, you *need* to checkout Cedarville.
We’ll have two groups. Both will ride around two hours with the faster folks doing an extra short-loop to pickup a trail the casual crew will skip.
Post-ride refueling stop for this one is Texas 202 BBQ in Brandywine, recently celebrated in the WaPo.
NOTE! Get some fresh driving directions to Cedarville from your favorite navigation app. Ongoing bridge work means you cannot drive direct along Cedarville Road from US-301.
