Course Descriptions

The Junior Epic- Perfect for advanced junior riders looking to push their limits. This course (the same route as the REI 15 Miler) will have a lead/swept group ride designed specifically for advanced youth to enjoy a true Epic Ride in a supported group environment. Riders must be at least 10 years old to participate. Expect your adventure to last approximately 3 hours. Click here for a course map.

The 15 Miler- Perfect for experienced beginners or riders who couldn’t commit to consistent training to enjoy a taste of the MoCo Epic experience. You’ll start off heading north for a quick tour of the Diabase trail which will lead you onto the flowing single track fun of Schaeffer Farms before finishing at South Germantown Rec Park for the post ride party. Click here for a course map.

The 30 Miler- Your Epic adventure begins with the Hoyles Mill trail. A combination of single track and gravel takes you over to Ten Mile Creek, and the amazing views of Little Seneca Lake. 6.5 miles of flowing pump track takes you over to Black Hill, and more traditional trails in this county park. A quick loop around Black Hill and you are back on Hoyles Mill in the opposite direction. As you get close to the South Germantown Rec Park, you veer off on Diabase and some nicely varied terrain. Cross the road and you enter the legendary Schaeffer Farm trail system. One of the oldest trails built by MORE, and a fan favorite for decades. Loop over to and descend the whoop-de-doo trail for a quick snack at Black Rock Mill before heading back up the hill, to finish on the White trail before hitting the home stretch to South Germantown Rec Park where the post ride party is beckoning! Click here for a course map.

The 40 Miler- This southern loop offers the most singletrack percentage wise of all the Epic courses. Starting off with the Diabase trail, you’ll twist through a quick tour of Schaeffer and continue straight to the fast flow of Seneca Ridge Trail to the Greenway and quick twist through the Kentlands. From there you will head out for a tour of Muddy Branch that ends as you drop down into the historic beauty of the C&O Canal. This is the final stretch as you’ll climb up Seneca Bluffs toward Seneca Ridge Trail and pop out at Black Rock Mill, then into Schaeffer Farms and onto the post ride festivities! Click here for a course map.

The 55 Miler- Here’s the route of choice for the brave at heart! This year you’ll be heading heading north through Hoyles Mill and on to the flowtrack of Ten Mile Creek and Black Hills. You will then begin some long climbing through Little Bennett and Damacus Regional Parks.  From there you will swing south on the Greenway Trail toward Seneca Creek State Park for a loop around the scenic Clopper Lake south and connect with the Seneca Ridge Trail for the long, fun run to Black Rock Mill. One last Aid Station and then it is off through Schaeffer Farm and back to South Germantown’s post ride party for refueling! Overall this route is about 85% singletrack with occasional paved country roads between parks. Click here for a course map.

The 75 Miler- Are you ready to tackle this granddaddy of Epic Rides? This course is no joke with over 4,000 ft in elevation. This year you’ll start your Epic adventure by heading north through Hoyles Mill and on to the flowtrack of Ten Mile Creek and Black Hills. You will then begin some long climbing through Little Bennett and Damacus Regional Parks.  From there you will swing south on the Greenway Trail toward Seneca Creek State Park for a loop around the scenic Clopper Lake after which you’ll roll through the Kentlands and head out for a tour of Muddy Branch that ends as you drop down into the historic beauty of the C&O Canal. This is the final stretch as you’ll climb up Seneca Bluffs toward Seneca Ridge Trail and pop out at Black Rock Mill, then into Schaeffer Farms and onto refueling at the post ride party. Be prepared for a 8-9 hour adventure you’ll never forget! Click here for a course map.

The Mini Epic Kid’s Ride (Oct 7)- Bring the kids out to enjoy a special ride geared just for them! MORE and Trails for Youth partner to lead a well organized kids ride option that will run approximately 5 miles and swing by a MoCo Epic aid station. Parents are not required to participate but are welcome to join at no charge if desired. Click here for a course map.

The Advanced Kid’s Ride (Oct 7)- Is your youth looking for a little more challenge than the Mini Epic Kid’s Ride? For the more advanced child riders, we’ll also have a longer course option that will tour 9-10 miles and even hit an aid station for a full Epic experience! Parents are not required to participate but are welcome to join at no charge if desired. Click here for a course map.
